DU initiates probe into gang-rape threat to DUCSU candidate

The Dhaka University (DU) administration has formed a three-member committee to investigate into a gang-rape threat to a female candidate to the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) elections.

The probe body has been formed following applications submitted by Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed panel's general secretary (GS) candidate SM Farhad and pro-leftist panel's vice-president (VP) aspirant Md Nayeem Hasan.

This information was shared in a press release signed by DU proctor prof Saifuddin Ahmed on Tuesday, September 2.

The committee's convener is assistant proctor Muhammad Mahbub Kaisar, while two members are assistant proctors Shehrin Amin Bhuiyan and Md Rezaul Karim Sohag.

The committee has been asked to submit its report soon.

Ali Hossain, a student of Sociology Department at DU, gave a gang-rape threat to liberation war and democratic movement candidate BM Fahmida Alam in the DUCSU polls in a Facebook post.

The post went viral on Monday, September 1, sparking a huge outcry in the social media platform and among candidates and students of the university.
