Voting underway in JUCSU elections

Voting for the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) elections is currently underway. Balloting began at 9:00 am on Thursday and will continue until 5:00 pm.

 

A total of 11,897 students are eligible to vote in the election, including 6,115 male and 5,728 female students.

Voting centers have been set up in 21 halls (11 male and 10 female), with 224 booths in total. Among the male residential halls, the number of voters is: Al-Beruni Hall – 210, AFM Kamaluddin Hall – 333, Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall – 464, Shaheed Salam-Barkat Hall – 298, Maulana Bhashani Hall – 514, 10 Number Hall – 522, Shaheed Rafiqul-Jabbar Hall – 650, Bishwakabi Rabindranath Thakur Hall – 350, 21 Number Hall – 735, Jatiya Kabi Nazrul Hall – 992, and Tajuddin Ahmad Hall – 947.

Among female halls, the number of voters is: Nawab Faizunnesa Hall – 279, Jahanara Imam Hall – 367, Preetilata Hall – 396, Begum Khaleda Zia Hall – 403, Sufia Kamal Hall – 456, 13 Number Hall – 519, 15 Number Hall – 571, Rokeya Hall – 956, Fazilatunnesa Hall – 798, and Taramon Bibi Hall – 983.

In this election, 177 candidates are contesting for 25 central student union posts. Eight panels, including left-leaning, Chhatra Shibir, Chhatra Dal, and independent-supported panels, are participating.

To manage the election, 67 polling officers (teachers) and 67 assistant polling officers (officials) have been appointed. Votes will be counted in the University Senate Hall after polling concludes.

To ensure peace and order on campus, 1,500 police personnel, seven platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and five platoons of Ansar have been deployed. Additional members of law enforcement will remain on and around the campus to prevent any untoward incidents.
