Voting underway in CUCSU elections
After a 35-year hiatus, elections for the Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (CUCSU) as well as hall and hostel unions are underway. Voting began at 9:00 am on Wednesday in 60 polling rooms across 15 centers set up in five faculty buildings and will continue until 4:00 pm.
The five faculty buildings hosting the polls are the Faculty of Social Sciences, Old Arts Faculty, New Arts Faculty, Faculty of Business Administration, and Faculty of Science. Each polling room has five ballot boxes—four for CUCSU elections and one for hall union elections—and can accommodate 500 voters.
Students were seen queuing from early morning at the Faculty of Social Sciences polling center. This year, 415 candidates are contesting for 26 CUCSU positions, while 493 candidates are contesting for hall and hostel union posts. In total, 908 candidates are participating in the elections. The total number of registered voters is 27,516.
After voting concludes, the hall union results will be announced at the respective polling centers, while the central CUCSU results will be declared at the Faculty of Business Administration (BBA).
Earlier, at 8:30 am, the ballot boxes at all 15 centers were opened for public inspection and then sealed in the presence of journalists and the candidates’ polling agents.
