Girls again outperform boys in pass rate, GPA-5 achievers

Girls once again outperformed their male counterparts in both pass rates and GPA-5 achievers in this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations. The pass rate for girls is nearly 63 percent, while boys’ pass rate is around 55 percent, giving girls an 8-percentage-point lead.

The results were published simultaneously by all education boards on Thursday (October 16) at 10:00 am. A total of 1,225,661 students participated in the examinations this year, of whom 726,960 passed. Among the passing students, 393,096 are girls and 333,864 are boys.

Girls also led in GPA-5 achievers. Of the total 69,097 students who achieved GPA-5, 37,044 are girls and 32,053 are boys.

In 2024, girls similarly outperformed boys, with a pass rate of 79.95 percent compared to 75.61 percent for boys. They also led in GPA-5 achievers, with 80,933 girls out of 145,911 students attaining the highest grade.
