RU hall union polls: JCD shut out as Shibir wins all top posts
The ‘Combined Student Alliance’ panel, backed by Islami Chhatra Shibir, has swept all three top posts—vice-president (VP), general secretary (GS), and assistant general secretary (AGS)—in the hall union elections of Rajshahi University. The Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) failed to secure any of the top three positions in all 17 halls.
The results were announced on Friday (October 17) at 8:30 am at the Kazi Nazrul Auditorium by RUCSU Chief Election Commissioner Professor Nazrul Isma.
In the central students’ union elections, the Shibir-backed panel won 20 out of 23 posts. VP candidate Md Mostakur Rahman Zahid of the panel won with 12,687 votes, while his closest rival, Sheikh Nur Uddin Abir of the JCD-backed ‘United New Generation’ panel, received 3,397 votes.
In the GS race, Salahuddin Ammar of the ‘Unity Against Hegemony’ panel was elected by a wide margin, securing 11,497 votes. His nearest competitor, Fazle Rabbi Md Fahim Reza of the Shibir-backed panel, received 5,727 votes. Ammar is a former coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, while Reza has also previously served as a coordinator.
