Police have fired sound grenades and used water cannon to disperse teachers protesting for the inclusion of their institutions under the Monthly Payment Order (MPO) scheme.

The incident took place around 4:00pm when the teachers tried to enter the Bangladesh Secretariat from in front of the Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka.

At that time, several teachers were injured, and several others detained by the police.

The non-MPO teachers have been observing programmes in front of the Jatiya Press Club since November 2 demanding to include them under the MPO system.

Earlier in October, non-MPO teachers and employees observed sit-in in front of the Press Club for 20 consecutive days in the same demand and later, withdrew the programme after assurance from the government.
