Govt decides to form 'Dhaka Central University' comprising 7 colleges
The government has decided in principle to establish a new public university named Dhaka Central University, comprising seven government colleges in Dhaka.
This information was shared in a notice sent by the public relations wing of the Ministry of Education on Tuesday afternoon, November 18.
The initiative has been taken in order to providing quality education, taking exams timely, publishing results swiftly and increasing administrative competency of the colleges, the ministry said.
To this end, the University Grant Commission (UGC) has made a draft 'Dhaka Central University Ordinance 2025' and sent it to the Secondary and Higher Education Division, according to the notice.
The draft ordinance was published on the division's website on September 24, seeking opinions from students, teachers and general stakeholders on the university formation. More than 5,000 people gave their opinion.
Besides, three view exchanges took place with the participation of teachers, students, educationists and representatives from civil society. Opinions were also collected from the ministry and division concerned.
The task of reevaluation and refinement of the draft is underway through reviewing opinions of all based on law and reality, the notice said.
The Ministry of Education said it will take some time to finalise the draft ordinance.
Earlier on March 26 this year, the government announced the formation of the Dhaka Central University with seven government colleges of Dhaka ending their affiliation with the Dhaka University.
The seven colleges are Dhaka College, Eden Mahila College, Begum Badrunnessa Govt. Girls College, Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Govt. College, Government Titumir College, and Mirpur Bangla College.
