The body of a 22-year-old East West University student was recovered from the campus premises in Dhaka’s Aftab Nagar on Thursday afternoon, raising concerns among students and prompting a police investigation.

The deceased, identified as Mushfiquzzaman, was a student of the Department of Mathematics and Physical Science. His body was discovered around 4pm in the narrow space between the university’s Farash Uddin Bhaban and the main building.

Badda Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Habibur Rahman confirmed the incident, saying initial indications suggest the student may have jumped from the university’s rooftop, though authorities have not ruled out other possibilities.

“The body has been sent for autopsy. We are investigating whether it was a suicide or if the body was placed there,” the OC told Jago News.

A video of the scene was shared on the Facebook page of the Private University Students Alliance of Bangladesh (PUSAB), stating that students first spotted the body and alerted university authorities.

According to PUSAB’s preliminary inquiry, Mushfiquzzaman attended a class at 3:10pm but left shortly afterward for unknown reasons. His body was discovered less than an hour later.

Police and university officials are continuing their investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
