DU VC submits resignation to Education Minister
Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan has submitted his resignation from the post of Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka. He formally handed over the resignation to Education Minister Anm Ehsanul Hoque Milon on Sunday (February 22).
In his resignation letter, the Vice-Chancellor cited “personal and administrative reasons,” according to officials from the Ministry of Education and the Office of the Vice-Chancellor.
Mohammad Firoz, the protocol officer of the Vice-Chancellor, also confirmed the matter to the media, saying that the resignation has been submitted to the Education Minister. No announcement has yet been made by the ministry, and the remaining procedures will be completed once the resignation is officially accepted.
Prior to the 13th national parliamentary elections, the Vice-Chancellor had indicated in a press conference that he was prepared to resign. At that time, he said, “The emergency situation is easing, and the overall trend of the university is showing upward progress. I now feel that we have reached a good stage in fulfilling our responsibilities, and I want to step down.”
Niaz Ahmed Khan also stated, “I want to step down so that the political government can organise the administration as it sees fit. If they need any cooperation from me in that regard, I am ready at any time.”
