Arrest warrant against Mehazabein, she calls it ‘baseless drama’
Dhaka’s entertainment world is shaken after a Dhaka Executive Magistrate Court issued arrest warrants against popular small-screen sensation Mehazabein Chowdhury and her younger brother Alisan Chowdhury in a sensational fraud and intimidation case involving Tk 27 lakh.
The warrant was issued on Sunday by Judge Afroza Tania of the Dhaka Executive Magistrate Court-3, after the accused failed to appear before the court despite receiving summons. The court has fixed December 18 as the next date for submission of the police report.
According to the case filed by complainant Amirul Islam, Mehazabein allegedly received Tk 27 lakh from him through mobile financial services including bKash and Nagad, promising to include him as a business partner in a new family venture. However, the plaintiff claims no business activity was initiated even after a long period, and repeated requests for refund went unanswered.
The case statement further alleges that on March 16, after Amirul went to meet the accused at a designated location near Hatirjheel, he was verbally abused and threatened by Mehazabein, her brother and several unidentified individuals. Amirul claims he was told he would be harmed if he appeared near the actress’ residence again.
Following the alleged incident, Amirul contacted Bhatara Police Station but was advised to seek legal action in court. He later filed the case under Section 107/117(3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure on March 24.
After reports of the arrest warrant circulated on Sunday, actress Mehazabein issued a statement on her verified Facebook account dismissing the reports as “false and baseless.”
“Some baseless case-related news is being spread using my name. I request all my journalist colleagues to refrain from publishing unverified or untrue news,” she wrote.
Meanwhile, confirmation has surfaced verifying that the accused male named in the case, Alisan Chowdhury, is indeed the actress’ younger brother.
No official response has yet been issued from the family or their legal representatives beyond the social media denial.
The case remains under court review.
