Iran clears Hormuz passage for 4 countries
In the midst of rising tensions in the Middle East involving Israel and the United States, Iran has granted permission for ships from four countries, India, China, Russia, and Pakistan, to navigate the Strait of Hormuz.
Reports from some Indian media suggested that Bangladesh might also be included in the list, but Iranian state media have not confirmed this.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, speaking to state television, said that Tehran has already approved passage requests from China, Russia, Pakistan, Iraq, and India.
He clarified that the Strait of Hormuz is not completely closed, but remains restricted for nations considered hostile to Iran.
In parallel, the Iranian Parliament is reportedly preparing legislation to impose tolls on ships using the strait, according to BBC reports.
A draft bill has been prepared by the Parliament’s construction committee, though it has not yet become law. The proposed measure aims to enhance the safety of vessels navigating this strategic waterway. Details regarding the potential toll amounts have not yet been disclosed.
