Jubo Dal leader killed in Savar ‘gunfight’
A leader of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal was killed in an alleged gunfight with police at Birulia at Savar in Dhaka on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Shah Alam alias Nayan, 40, organising secretary of Savar municipality unit of Jubo Dal.
Nayan was arrested from his Mohammadpur residence in the capital on Friday night.
Kamruzzaman, Officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station, said, a police team went to a nursery of Krishibid Foundation in Birulia area with Nayan around 2:30am to recover firearms.
Sensing presence of law enforcers, the criminals opened fire on them. In retaliation, police shot fires targeting the miscreants in self-defence that triggered the ‘gunfight’.
At one stage, Nayan was caught in the line of fire and suffered bullet injuries. Later, he was whisked off to Savar Upazila Health Complex where a doctor declared him dead.
The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
