Novelist Shawkat Ali passes away
Eminent novelist Shawkat Ali has died while undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) at the age of 82.
He breathed his last around 5.30am on Thursday, his son Asif Shawkat Kollol told the reporters.
He was suffering from old age complications for a long.
Shawkat’s first novel ‘Pingal Akash’ and his most popular novel is ‘Prodoshe Prakritojon’.
Some notable works of the writer are ‘Dakshinayaner Din’ (The Days of Southward Way, 1985), ‘Kulyaai Kalasrot’ (Time the Flow of in a Bird’s Nest, 1986), ‘Purbaratri Purbadin’ (The Night Before, the Day Before, 1986).
The eminent writer received various awards for his outstanding contribution in Bengali literature including Bangla Academy Literary Award (1968), Humayun Kabir Memorial Award, Lekhak Shibir Medal (1978), Ajit Guha Literary Prize (1982), Philips Literary Award (1986 and 1989), Ekushe Padak (1990).
Shawkat Ali was born in Dinajpur district on February 12, 1936, and was a professor of Bengali literature and language.
