Poet Belal Chowdhury passes away

Prominent poet Belal Chowdhury, 79, passed away on Tuesday who had been undergoing treatment at the city’s Anwar Khan Modern Hospital with multiple ailments.

He breathed his last at around 12:30pm.

The Ekushey Padak winning poet was on life support since April 20.

Belal Chowdhury is one of the powerful poets of the 60’s.

He is also a prominent article writer, and translator. He had long been served “Bharat Bichitra” as its editor published from Indian embassy in Dhaka.

He was also an editor of the ‘Saptahik Sandwip’ published by Rupali Group.

He also did job in the Krittibas, a Bengali poetry magazine, edited by Sunil Gangopadhyay while he was residing in India.
