Police have rescued Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Vice-Chancellor Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed from several hours' confinement by the protesting students.

The policemen entered Dr MA Wazed Mia ICT Bhaban on the campus breaking the lock around 6 pm on Sunday and brought him out of there.

The students obstructed police from rescuing the VC, prompting the law enforcers to charge baton, and in retaliation, the formers threw brickbats towards the latters.

The cops also lobbed tear shells, rubber bullets, and sound grenades towards the protesters to disperse them, leaving at least 30 injured, including five police members, 10 teacher-official-employee, 15 students.

Earlier around 2:45 pm, the students confined VC Farid to Dr MA Wazed Mia ICT Bhaban.

It was learned that the students after Saturday midnight announced to boycott the classes of all departments for an indefinite period until their three-point demands, including the resignation of all of the Begum Sirazunnesa Chowdhury Hall provost committee members, are met.

Earlier on Saturday evening, SUST unit Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders and activists allegedly attacked the protesting students, leaving them angered.
