Bailey Road fire: Case filed over deaths of 46 people

Police have filed a case over the deaths of 46 people in a fire at Green Cozy Cottage building on Bailey Road in the capital.

The case was filed with Ramna Police Station on Friday night on the charge of negligent homicide in the incident.

Mohammad Salman Farsi, Assistant Commissioner (Ramna zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed the matter to Jago News on Saturday. 

He said some people were detained over the Bailey Road fire incident. After verification, those involved will be shown arrested in the case and sent to court.

However, in a media briefing on Friday night, Additional Police Commissioner Dr Kh Mohid Uddin said they detained Kacchi Bhai restaurant manager Jisan and two Chumuk restaurant owners - Anwarul Haque and Shakil Ahmed - in connection with the Bailey Road fire. They are being interrogated. 

He said 46 people have died so far in the fire incident. Of them, 20 were men, 18 were women, and 8 were children. 

Earlier on Thursday night, forty-six people were killed after the deadly fire broke out at Green Cozy Cottage building on Bailey Road area.
