Federico Valverde scored a stoppage-time winner as Real Madrid snatched three points at Celta Vigo in La Liga to apply pressure on leaders Barcelona.

His late goal, which took a heavy deflection off Marcos Alonso on the way in, secured a first win in three league games for Real.

Aurelien Tchouameni had sent an early effort in off the woodwork to open the scoring shortly after Vinicius Jr hit the post.

But Celta soon equalised after England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold let Williot Swedberg breeze past him on the wing and set up Borja Iglesias.

Alvaro Arbeloa's side were without a number of key players, with Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo and Eduardo Camavinga all absent through injury.

Victory moves them to a point behind Barcelona as Real, who have slipped off the pace in the title race in recent weeks, aim to return to the top of the table.

Barcelona will have the opportunity to restore a four-point advantage when they visit Athletic Club on Saturday (20:00 GMT).

Real host Manchester City in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Wednesday.
