Apurba Jahangir, deputy press secretary to the Chief Adviser, on Sunday said Planning and Education Adviser Professor Dr Wahiduddin Mahmud’s statement on the next general election and political government is his personal opinion.

“Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud yesterday (Saturday) gave a personal opinion on election. He said the election will likely take place in the next year. However, it is his personal view,” Apurba Jahangir said in a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka this evening.

He said the Chief Adviser made no announcement about election yet, and the Election Commission on behalf of him will announce this.

Asked when the announcement may come, the deputy press secretary told the reporters, “You will first know when the announcement comes.”

Dr Wahiduddin earlier on Saturday announced that the nation will welcome a political government in the New Year.

“We will see a political government in the next year. It is my personal opinion. I do not know what will happen,” he had said.
