Ex-MP Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin arrested

Former lawmaker Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, who represented the Dhaka-7 constituency, has been arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

The arrest was made during a raid in the Mansurabad Housing area of Mohammadpur in the capital on Monday (January 20). The information was confirmed by Joint Commissioner (DB) Md Rabiul Hossain Bhuiyan.

Sources reveal that the former MP is implicated in a case related to the massacre during the July Movement. He is expected to be presented in court later today in connection with the case.

Mustafa Jalal Mohiuddin is currently the president of the Bangladesh Medical Association. He served as an MP for Dhaka-7 following his victory in the 2008 ninth national election.

Earlier in his political career, he contested the Dhaka-8 constituency in 1991 but lost to BNP candidate Mir Shawkat Ali. In 2014, he contested again from Dhaka-7 but was defeated by independent candidate Haji Selim. Additionally, he is the founder of Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad (Swachip), which he established in 1993.
