Interim government adviser Mahfuj Alam has stated that the Awami League will not be allowed to participate in the upcoming elections. He made this statement during a street meeting with students and the public in Hajiganj, Chandpur district on Saturday (January 25).

Mahfuj Alam said, "Our struggle is for the establishment of a stable democratic Bangladesh. It is a fight to free Bangladesh from Awami fascism. If the Awami League returns to power, fascism will return with it. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman established Baksal and killed thousands of people. We do not want to see the rule of Sheikh Mujib or Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh again. The new Bangladesh does not want the fascist system of the Awami League. We want Bangladesh to be in the hands of pro-Bangladeshis. There will be no place for pro-Delhi elements in Bangladesh."

He also stated that, based on the report of the reform commission, discussions will soon be held with political parties and stakeholders to implement minimum reforms and arrange elections to bring about a democratic transition.

He added, "We formed the government in exchange for the martyrdom of over two thousand students and common people during the July mass uprising. It is our government's commitment to bring the perpetrators to justice, to reform the institutions that fascist Hasina destroyed, and to ensure fair elections for a democratic transition."

Earlier, upon arriving in Hajiganj from Dhaka by road, local students and citizens greeted Mahfuj Alam with flowers. Later in the afternoon at 3 pm, he is scheduled to attend a mass reception at the Ramganj Government College ground in Lakshmipur. In the evening, he will meet with local government officials and leaders at the Upazila Parishad hall.
