Monowara Begum, mother of July Revolution martyr Abu Sayeed, has urged the people to reform the state so that no one else has to lose their life, like her son, for demanding rights.

Her remarks came during a visit from a delegation led by Md Shafiur Rahman, the organisational head of the National Revolutionary Council. The delegation met with Monowara Begum and her family after visiting the grave of Shaheed Abu Sayeed in Babanpur of Pirganj in Rangpur, on Saturday (January 25), said a press release.

During the meeting, Monowara Begum shared her grief and spoke about the family's hardships.

She revealed that the government had provided a one-time financial assistance of Tk 5 lakh, but additional promises of support remain unfulfilled. "Government officials have taken documents for further assistance, but we haven’t received anything yet," she said.

Breaking down in tears, she expressed her deepest wish: "More than any form of support, my greatest hope is to see the country transformed in a way where no other Abu Sayeed has to sacrifice their life for demanding basic rights."

Md Shafiur Rahman pledged that the National Revolutionary Council would work tirelessly to realize the vision of a non-discriminatory and just society that Shaheed Abu Sayeed and others dreamed of.

"The National Revolutionary Council and the general students of the July Revolution will always stand by the martyr’s family, addressing their needs and visiting regularly to seek their blessings," Rahman said.

The delegation included Md Mamunur Rashid, Md Omar Faruk, and Tarek Hossain, who also assured the family of continued support.
