Tank-lorry workers lift strike following govt assurance
The Khulna Division Tank-Lorry Workers Union has called off its strike after receiving assurances from the government administration. Consequently, fuel extraction resumed at three depots in Khulna at 8:00 am on Wednesday.
Sources confirmed that fuel extraction began this morning at the Padma, Meghna, and Jamuna depots. The suspension of fuel extraction and transportation over the past three days had caused a fuel shortage at fuel pumps in 16 districts, including Khulna Division.
Mosharraf Hossain, vice-president of the union, stated, “Following assurances from the Khulna Police Commissioner and the Deputy Commissioner, we have called off the strike, and fuel extraction resumed this morning.”
The strike was triggered after the arrest of Ali Azim, the union's general secretary, on Sunday in a sabotage case. Following his arrest, tank-lorry workers staged protests, halting fuel extraction and transportation at the depots.
