Man beaten for chanting ‘Joy Bangla’ at Dhanmondi 32

A man was severely beaten by a mob after chanting ‘Joy Bangla’ during the demolition of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s house at Dhanmondi 32 in Dhaka.

The incident occurred around 11:00 am on Thursday.

According to eyewitnesses, the man suddenly appeared and asked, “Why is there a need for this destruction?” He then chanted ‘Joy Bangla.’

Upon inspection, it was found that the agitated crowd dragged the man into the street and began beating him. During the assault, students and members of the public intervened, rescuing the man and taking him to a safer location in a rickshaw.

In a separate incident, a woman also faced public anger after making inappropriate comments during the demolition. Her identity has not been immediately confirmed.

Eyewitnesses reported that the woman suddenly appeared and said, ‘Why is there a need for this destruction? Because the Awami League did it, should you also do it? Can’t a compromise be reached?’

They further mentioned that the woman used offensive language, insulting those carrying out the demolition. The angry crowd then drove her away from the area. During the commotion, the woman stumbled and fell.

Jahidul Islam, an eyewitness, said, ‘We told her to leave, but she kept speaking and insulting us. The crowd chased her away, and later, some people surrounded her and moved her to a different location.’
