Gazipur tense, students’ rally this noon
The situation in Gazipur has become tense following an attack on the supporters of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement by members of the Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League. In response to the incident, leaders of the movement will hold a rally at Rajbari ground in the district on Saturday noon.
Sources said after receiving news of an attack on the ancestral home of former Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque in the Dhirasram area of Gazipur on Friday night, supporters of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement arrived at the site. It is alleged that, upon their arrival, members of the Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League carried out a planned attack. As a result, 15 individuals were injured, five of whom sustained serious injuries and were transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Following the attack on the students, tensions have risen in Gazipur. The central coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement have demanded swift justice for the assault on the students.
Md. Nabil, the convener of the movement in Gazipur, stated that if a fair trial is not conducted for the attack on the students, a "March to Gazipur" movement will be organized.
