The government has taken an initiative to introduce “e-Health Cards” for citizens as part of its 180-day action plan, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman told the Jatiya Sangsad on Wednesday.

He made the disclosure in a written reply on the 14th day of the first session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad on Wednesday, April 15.

The prime minister said the e-Health Card project is currently awaiting approval and will be launched initially in Khulna, Noakhali, Bogura, Sirajganj and Narsingdi.

Responding to a written question from Md Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, he said the initiative is aimed at expanding digital healthcare services across the country.

Highlighting other components of the 180-day programme, Tarique Rahman said canal excavation and re-excavation work began on March 16, with a target to complete 1,204 kilometres by June under the Water Resources Ministry, Local Government Division and Agriculture Ministry.

He added that the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief will rehabilitate around 1,500 kilometres of canals through employment-generation schemes such as Kabikha (Kajer Minimaye Khadya – Food for Work), Kabita (Kajer Minimaye Taka – Cash for Work) and TR (Test Relief).

The government has also set a longer-term target to excavate and re-excavate 20,000 kilometres of canals and rivers over the next five years, he said.
