Govt explores universal military training for youth
Field level administrators and policymakers on Tuesday explored possibilities of introducing Universal Military Training for the country’s youth.
The issue came in discussion during a session at the Deputy Commissioners Conference at Osmani Memorial Auditorium when one of the deputy commissioners raised a question.
Speaking to journalists after the final session of the three-day conference, Abdul Hafiz, Special Assistant to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, revealed it.
He said, “The deputy commissioners had inquired about enhancing civil-military cooperation. Could orientations similar to those conducted by civil administration officers at the division level be implemented? This would help deepen the understanding between the civil administration and the military or armed forces. Another question raised was the possibility of organising universal military training for the youth, where they could receive military training and contribute to the country's defence.”
"Our youth could receive military training and contribute to national defence. However, this is a political decision that requires financial planning. If the government approves, the armed forces are prepared to implement it," Hafiz explained.
The conference also emphasised strengthening coordination between the civil administration and the armed forces.
Hafiz warned that autocratic forces and their allies are regrouping and engaging in activities that could destabilise the country. DCs have been instructed to remain vigilant and proactive in addressing such threats, he told newsmen.
Hafiz said that 1,400 weapons and 250,000 rounds of ammunition looted after August 5 are still missing. "Out of 6,000 looted weapons, three-quarters have been recovered. Similarly, 600,000 rounds of ammunition were stolen, and 250,000 remain unaccounted for. The joint forces are working to recover the rest," he said.
Hafiz also highlighted the need for market stability and uninterrupted power supply ahead of Ramadan, urging DCs to take necessary measures.
