16 lakh deceased voters removed from list

The Election Commission has removed over 16 lakh deceased voters from the electoral roll as part of its ongoing update process.
At the same time, 53 lakh citizens are set to be added to the voter list.
These findings were detailed in an EC report released on Wednesday (February 19), compiled using data collected from the field.
The report, signed by Md Abdul Momin Sarkar, Director of the National Identity Registration (NID) Division, confirms that information from 53.55 lakh people has been collected so far.
Of them, 14.41 lakh individuals have completed the registration process, including photographs and fingerprinting and 16.27 million deceased voters have been removed from the list.
EC officials said that the registration process will continue until April 11. Any individuals mistakenly removed from the list can visit registration centres and update their information online to reinstate their voter status.
Earlier, the EC conducted a door-to-door data collection drive from February 5 to February 3 to gather updated voter information.
