Magnitude 5.3 earthquake felt in Sylhet, other parts

A moderate earthquake was felt in various parts of Bangladesh, including Sylhet, early Wednesday. The earthquake had a magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter scale.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicentre was located in Bhuragaon, Assam, India, at a depth of 10 kilometers below the Earth's surface.

Although the epicentre was in India, the earthquake's effects were also felt in neighboring Bangladesh, Myanmar, Bhutan, and China.

Earlier, on February 25, an earthquake was felt in various parts of Bangladesh, including the capital, Dhaka. Nizam Uddin, a professional assistant at the Earthquake Observation and Research Centre of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, told Jago News that the epicenter of this earthquake was located in the Bay of Bengal, approximately 510 kilometers from Dhaka. As a result, the tremors were more strongly felt in the coastal districts. However, no reports of damage have been received.

The Meteorological Office stated that this earthquake had a magnitude of 5.1 on the Richter scale and was classified as a moderate tremor.
