No room for moral policing in Bangladesh: Rizwana
Environment and Forest Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan firmly said that there is no place for mob justice or moral policing in the country.
“The government has consistently taken a strong stance against such actions. However, as law and order have not yet fully returned to normal, incidents of mob justice and moral policing have been observed in some areas,” she explained.
Commenting on a recent incident in Mohammadpur, Rizwana noted, “We understand that both parties involved have signed a compromise agreement in the presence of the police. Since a settlement has been reached, we must respect it as the final resolution.”
The adviser emphasised that the government unequivocally opposes violence against women and any such behaviour.
Following a mob attack on two young women for smoking in public and the subsequent protests from rights and feminist groups, Rizwana came up with the explanation at a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka on Tuesday.
