3 Hizb ut-Tahrir members arrested in Uttara
The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested three members of the banned organization Hizb ut-Tahrir in Uttara, Dhaka, early Friday.
The banned outfit had secretly planned a gathering called "March for Khilafah" near the Baitul Mukarram Mosque, the CTTC revealed.
The Deputy Police Commissioner of the Media and Public Relations Division of DMP, Muhammad Talebur Rahman, confirmed the arrests. The operation took place around 12:15 am in Sector-11 and Sector-12 of the Uttara West Police Station area.
The arrested individuals are Monirul Islam (40), Mohtasin Billah (40), and Mahmoodul Hasan (21).
Quoting the CTTC, Talebur Rahman said that based on secret information, a CTTC team learnt that active members of Hizb ut-Tahrir in the Uttara West Police Station area were planning to hold a secret gathering for the "March for Khilafah" event near the Baitul Mukarram Mosque on March 7. In order to prevent this activity, the CTTC operation team raided the area and arrested the suspects.
A case has been filed against the arrestees under the Anti-Terrorism Act at the Uttara West Police Station.
During initial questioning, the arrested individuals confessed to being active members of the banned outfit. Preliminary evidence collected from them also supports this claim.
