Garment worker killed in Banani accident, road blocked

A garment worker was killed in a road accident at Chairman Bari in Banani, Dhaka, on Monday morning. In protest of the incident, angry workers blocked traffic on both the road and the Elevated Expressway.

The police have yet to identify the deceased.

According to sources, around 7:00 am, a speeding truck hit two garment workers as they were crossing the road. One of the workers died at the scene, while the other was severely injured. Following the accident, garment workers blocked both sides of the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway near Chairman Bari in Banani, halting traffic. They also blocked the ramp leading to the Elevated Expressway, preventing vehicles from exiting. As a result, severe traffic congestion has developed throughout the expressway.

Md Rasel Sarwar, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Banani Police Station, told Jago News, "A road accident has occurred. One garment worker has died, and another has been injured. We have confirmed information about two individuals, but some locals are saying that three people were involved."

He added, "Currently, garment workers are blocking the road, and as a result, traffic movement has been halted on both sides. We are working to control the situation."
