Magura child laid to rest, alleged rapist’s home torched

The funeral of an eight-year-old girl, brutally raped and killed in Magura, was held after Isha prayers on Thursday, March 13.

She was buried in her native village of Sonaikundi, Sripur upazila, following the arrival of her body by helicopter from Dhaka earlier that night.  

Meanwhile, outrage erupted as a mob set fire to the alleged rapist’s house in Magura town at around 7:45pm, hours after the child’s body returned.

The girl was assaulted on Thursday, March 6, while visiting her sister’s home. She was admitted to Magura’s 250-bed hospital the next day, March 7. 

As her condition worsened, she was transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital that afternoon and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) that night. 

On Friday, March 8, she was placed on life support. The following evening, she was moved to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka. 

Despite intensive care, she suffered three cardiac arrests on Thursday morning, passing away at 1:00pm after her heart failed to restart.  

Magura Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ayub Ali confirmed that a case has been filed and an investigation is underway.
