63-year-old man arrested for raping toddler

A 63-year-old man, Alkas Talukder, has been arrested in Fakirhat, Bagerhat, accused of raping a 3.5-year-old girl.
The child is receiving treatment at the One Stop Crisis Centre at Khulna Medical College Hospital, where she was transferred after initial care proved inadequate.
Alkas, a beggar originally from Morelganj, had been living in a rented home next to the child’s family. Police say he lured the girl to his house around noon on Wednesday, March 12. She fell ill afterward, prompting relatives to rush her to the Upazila Health Complex.
Dr Fatema Binte Azad, a medical officer there, told Jago News, “We found injury marks on her private parts. Treatment here wasn’t possible, so we sent her to the OCC in Khulna.”
The child’s mother filed a rape case with Fakirhat Model Police Station on Friday night.
Hours later, police apprehended Talukder, who was presented before a court on Saturday, March 15.
The station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) confirmed the arrest: “A case has been registered, and the accused is now in court custody. The child remains under medical care in Khulna.”
The incident has left the community reeling, with authorities now tasked to deliver justice for the young victim.
