Yunus orders necessary preparations for peaceful polls
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday instructed authorities to take necessary steps and preparations to ensure peaceful elections in the country.
The directive came during a meeting with Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and other senior officials.
The meeting focused on addressing challenges faced by law enforcement agencies, particularly at the grassroots level, to strengthen their capacity ahead of the polls.
Earlier, on Monday, Yunus had convened a special meeting with field-level police officers, where they discussed operational challenges and logistical constraints affecting their duties. Wednesday’s meeting built on those discussions, aiming to resolve the issues raised.
Yunus did not mince words: “Make it peaceful. Prepare now.” His orders hit the grassroots hard—review risk allowance caps, fast-track 364 pickups and 140 prisoner vans, fund stalled police projects under 70% done, and acquire land to ditch rented stations for 65 precincts.
Sub-Inspectors and Assistants even got a nod: interest-free motorcycle loans are on the table.
Yunus doubled down with a twist—rank district police by performance, then lift the laggards. It’s a data-driven push to sharpen a force he sees as the election’s backbone.
“Conditions improve now,” he insisted, eyeing a smoother beat for officers who’ll face the polling storm.
