Tureen on 4-day remand in attempted murder case

A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed former prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), Barrister Tureen Afroz, on a four-day remand in a case related to the attempted murder of Abdul Jabbar in the Uttara area during the student-led July-August mass uprising.

Dhaka's Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Zakir Hossain, passed the order after police presented Tureen before the court and requested a 10-day remand in the case.

Police arrested Barrister Tureen Afroz from her Uttara Sector-11 residence on the night of April 7.

According to case documents, Abdul Jabbar participated in an anti-discrimination student movement rally in the Uttara West Police Station area on August 5 of last year. He was shot and subsequently rushed to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

Jabbar later filed the case on March 27, 2025, accusing 50 individuals, including the ousted prime minister, Sheikh Hasina.
