Law ministry opens applications for withdrawal of political cases

From now on, individuals who have been victims of politically motivated cases can directly apply to the Solicitor of the Law and Justice Division under the Ministry of Law for the withdrawal of their cases.

This decision was made during the 11th meeting of the committee formed at the ministry level to review politically motivated cases, held on Sunday (April 20) at the Secretariat.

The Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs disclosed the information through an official press release.

According to the release, the initiative aims to expedite the ongoing process of withdrawing politically motivated cases. Individuals whose cases were filed between January 6, 2009, and August 5, 2024, are eligible to apply for withdrawal.

However, the application must be accompanied by an attested copy of the First Information Report (FIR) and, where applicable, the charge sheet related to the case, the notification added.

Meanwhile, in Sunday’s meeting, chaired by the Adviser to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, the committee recommended the withdrawal of 724 more cases.

Previously, the committee had recommended the withdrawal of 7,570 cases across different meetings. With the latest recommendations, the total number of politically motivated cases proposed for withdrawal now stands at 8,294.

The committee also decided to gradually withdraw all politically motivated cases filed between January 6, 2009, and August 5, 2024.
