BGB bolsters security along Jashore border amid Indo-Pak tensions

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has heightened security along a 70-kilometer stretch of the Jashore border in Sharsha upazila due to escalating India-Pakistan tensions, said Lt Col Saifullah Siddiqui, Commanding Officer of BGB-49 Battalion.

The Jashore-70 Battalion has intensified patrols and remains on high alert to prevent illegal crossings from India.

“Security measures are reinforced to block any unauthorized entry,” Siddiqui stated. Local resident Al Mamun reported a calm border but affirmed community support for BGB against potential Indian Border Security Force (BSF) provocations.

Public representative Alamgir Hossain noted increased BSF presence, now every 300 yards compared to 500 previously, raising concerns despite stability.

Separately, BGB sources reported that India’s BSF pushed 80 Indian nationals into Bangladesh’s Khagrachhari district on Wednesday, claiming they were Bangladeshis.

The group, including women and children, entered through Shantipur (27), Achalong Para (23), and Ruposhi Para (30) borders in Matiranga and Panchhari upazilas, said Acting Deputy Commissioner Nazmun Ara Sultana.
