Former Mymensingh-11 MP Kazim Uddin arrested
Former Member of Parliament for the Mymensingh-11 (Bhaluka) constituency, Kazim Uddin Ahmed, also known as Dhanu, has been arrested by police.
Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the Media and Public Relations Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed the arrest on Thursday (May 15).
According to police, Dhanu was arrested in connection with a murder case filed at the Jatrabari Police Station on August 26 last year.
Case details reveal that on July 19, 2023, Mohammad Arif (18), a participant in an anti-discrimination movement, was shot near a madrasa on Uttar Kutubkhali Boubazar Road under the jurisdiction of Jatrabari Police Station. Arif was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital but died while undergoing treatment.
Following the incident, the victim’s father, Mohammad Yusuf, filed a case at Jatrabari Police Station, naming 243 individuals as accused. Kazim Uddin Ahmed was listed as accused number 14.
DC Talebur Rahman further stated that Kazim Uddin is also an accused in four other cases related to killings and attacks during the anti-discrimination movement. Based on intelligence and technological surveillance, Jatrabari police arrested him from the Aftabnagar area of the capital around 3:00 am on Thursday.
