Turkish flight makes emergency landing in Dhaka after engine fire

A Turkish Airlines flight made an emergency landing shortly after takeoff from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Tuesday morning, following a fire in one of its engines. The aircraft was carrying 290 passengers.

According to airport sources, Turkish Airlines flight TK 713 (an Airbus A330-303) departed from the airport bound for Istanbul at 7:00 am, Turkey, with 290 passengers on board. Just 15 minutes after takeoff, the pilot noticed sparks coming from one of the engines. He immediately decided to make an emergency landing.

The aircraft circled in the sky for about an hour and a half to burn fuel before landing safely at around 8:15 am.

Group Captain SM Ragib Samad, Executive Director of the airport, told Jago News that the cause of the fire is under investigation.

After the safe landing, all passengers were evacuated from the aircraft. The airline is accommodating them in hotels and will arrange alternative flights to their destinations.
