The Bangladesh Army has vowed to take strict action against mob violence, activities causing public suffering, and threats to life and property, as it works tirelessly to protect national sovereignty, secure citizens and state assets, and maintain stability.

Colonel Md Shafiqul Islam, Colonel Staff of the Directorate of Military Operations at Army Headquarters, announced this at a press conference in Dhaka Cantonment on Monday, May 26, 2025.

Colonel Shafiqul emphasised that, under the Army Chief’s directives, personnel across 62 districts, including char areas, are working round-the-clock to maintain law and order in coordination with interim government ministries, law enforcement, local administration, organisations, media, and the public. “The army is united and committed to standing by the people and safeguarding sovereignty,” he said, warning of firm measures against future disruptions.

Colonel Shafiqul reported that in the last 40 days, the army recovered 241 illegal weapons and 709 rounds of ammunition, contributing to a total of 9,611 weapons and 285,761 rounds seized since August 2024.

Additionally, 1,969 individuals involved in crimes such as juvenile gang activities, kidnapping, smuggling, fraud, extortion, robbery, and snatching were arrested in the past month, with a total of 14,266 arrests to date.

A notable operation on May 20 in Dhaka’s Bhashantek area led to the arrest of notorious terrorist Hitlu Babu and ten gang members, along with four foreign pistols and 28 rounds of bullets, restoring peace and security to the local community.
