BTV to likely broadcast Hasina’s trial live from ICT
The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) is set to broadcast live the hearing on formal charge framing against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for alleged crimes against humanity, according to the prosecution.
On Saturday, May 31, 2025, ICT Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim announced that the formal charges in Sheikh Hasina’s case will be submitted to the tribunal on Sunday, June 1.
He noted that, subject to the tribunal’s approval, the court proceedings may be televised live on Bangladesh Television (BTV).
Preparations for live broadcasts have been in place since May 20, when Tribunal-1’s courtroom was upgraded with digital technology.
Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam previously wrote on Facebook, “The courtroom is now equipped with digital technology for the trial of crimes against humanity committed in July–August. With the court’s permission, any part of the trial can be broadcast live or recorded for media and social media.”
The live broadcast, if approved, will mark a significant step in ensuring transparency in the high-profile case.
