Cumilla rape: HC orders removal of video footage from social media
The High Court (HC) has ordered the Bangladesh Telecommunication and Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to remove the video footage of the torture of a rape victim in Cumilla’s Muradnagar from social media within 24 hours.
The court also asked the authorities concerned to ensure security of the rape survivor and provide necessary treatment to her.
The bench of Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Syed Zahed Mansur passed the order on Sunday, June 29.
The woman was reportedly raped at Ramchandrapur Panchkitta village in Muradnagar of Cumilla on the night of June 26.
Later, she filed a case with the Muradnagar police station in this connection.
The police arrested Fazar Ali, 38, the main accused in the case, in Dhaka’s Sayedabad area in the early hours of today.
Four others were also arrested for allegedly torturing the victim during the rape incident and circulating a video of the torture on social media.
