2 engineers among 3 killed in Jashore building cornice collapse

Three people, including two engineers, were killed when the cornice of an under-construction building collapsed in Jashore. The incident occurred around 12:00 pm on Tuesday (1 July) at the under-construction ‘Building for Future’ project located at Iqbal Manzil in the Circuit House area.

The deceased were identified as Project Engineer Mizanur Rahman (35) from Kushtia, Site Engineer Azizul Islam from Dinajpur, and construction worker Nuru (45) from Chapainawabganj.

M Tamal Ahmed, a resident of the Circuit House area and convener of the district unit of Juba Dal, said Iqbal Manzil is a six-storey building. While one side of the building has been completed, construction work was ongoing on the western part. The cornice on the fifth floor collapsed, killing the three.

Mujibur Rahman, a worker at the site, said they were working on the western part of the fifth floor in the morning when the cornice suddenly gave way, causing the three to fall. They were rescued in critical condition and taken to Jashore General Hospital, where doctors at the emergency department declared all three dead upon examination.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jashore Kotwali Police Station, Abul Hasnat, confirmed that the bodies have been kept at the morgue of Jashore General Hospital. Following the incident, police and fire service personnel visited the site.
