Youth killed in Munshiganj post-polls violence

A youth was killed in an incident of post-election violence in the Munshiganj-3 (Sadar and Gazaria) constituency on Friday.

The deceased, Md Jasim Nayeb, 30, was a supporter of independent candidate Md Mohiuddin and a resident of Char Abdullah village under Adhara union in Sadar upazila. He was the son of local resident Mafiq Nayeb.

According to local sources, a group of rival supporters allegedly went to Jasim Nayeb’s house on Friday afternoon and verbally abused him. Tensions later escalated into a clash, during which he was beaten and seriously injured.

Family members rescued him and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he died around 7:30pm while undergoing treatment.

The victim’s elder brother, Md Mashiur Rahman, alleged that around 200 rival supporters gathered at the house and assaulted Jasim Nayeb. “They severely beat my brother. When his condition worsened, we rushed him to Dhaka, but he could not be saved,” he said.

Munshiganj Superintendent of Police Menhazul Alam confirmed the incident, saying police were aware of the situation. He added that the law and order situation remained under control and legal action would be taken after an investigation.
