Sayeed Hossain Chowdhury, Chairman of HRC Group, passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the capital on Tuesday (July 15), his personal secretary Md Sohel confirmed.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, one daughter, and countless admirers. 

Sayeed Hossain was the eldest son of Hedayet Hossain Chowdhury, founder of the Karnaphuli Group — a renowned education enthusiast, Language Movement veteran, and social worker. He was also the elder brother of Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Managing Director of Karnaphuli Group and Chairman of Desh TV.

He made significant contributions to the development of Bangladesh’s tea industry. Under his leadership, HRC Group became one of the country’s top tea exporters, representing Bangladesh on the international stage.

HRC Group has been active not only in the tea sector but also in tourism, shipbuilding, real estate, transportation, agriculture, and food processing — creating employment for thousands.

He also served as the Honorary Consul of Bangladesh in Spain, earning high regard in diplomatic circles.

Sayeed Hossain was actively involved with various international organizations and played a key role in promoting Bangladesh’s business and investment potential worldwide.

Despite his success as an entrepreneur, he remained committed to the welfare of ordinary people. His initiatives in education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation received widespread praise.

As a respected business leader and philanthropist, he was honored with numerous awards both at home and abroad.
