Garment factories to remain shut on Aug 5
All garment factories across the country will remain closed on August 5. This was confirmed by Mahmud Hasan Khan, president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
The government officially declared August 5 a public holiday each year on July 2 to observe the 'July Mass Uprising Day,' commemorating the fall of the Awami League government following last year's student-led movement.
The Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification stating that August 5 has been designated as 'July Mass Uprising Day' and included under the 'Ka' category of national and international observances, according to the Cabinet Division's directive dated October 21, 2024.
All concerned ministries, divisions, and agencies have been requested to observe the day appropriately.
