Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman has promised to make Maulana Mamunul Haque, chief of the Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, a minister if he and the 11-party alliance win the upcoming 13th parliamentary election.

He pledged this while addressing a public rally held at the central Eidgah Maidan in Dhaka's Mohammadpur on Monday, February 9.

Shafiqur said, “If Allama Mamunul Haque is elected, the people of Dhaka-13 will have a respected and capable minister, Inshallah.”

He also accused certain government officials of attempting to manipulate votes in favor of specific candidates and criticised the Election Commission’s directive banning mobile phones within 400 yards of polling stations.

He warned that if the directive is not revoked by Monday evening, Jamaat and the 11-party alliance would take action against the officials involved.

Addressing the rally, Mamunul Haque urged voters to elect him, promising to uphold Quranic principles in Parliament, eliminate drug abuse, curb crime, and ensure a safe and secure Dhaka-13.

He also criticised his rival, claiming that the candidate’s family has links to arms trading and could bring violence back to the area.

Among others, senior leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami and allied parties, including Nahid Islam, Yusuf Ashraf, Khorban Ali Kasemi, Mamunul’s 11-party electoral alliance committee members, and other top officials, were present on the occasion.
