AI used to create fake video of IGP: Police HQ

A fake video statement featuring an AI-generated voice and a photo of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam has recently been circulated on social media, according to the Police Headquarters.

HM Shahadat Hossain, Assistant Inspector General (Media and PR) of the Police Headquarters, disclosed the matter on Tuesday morning.

He said the video used a still image of the IGP combined with artificial intelligence (AI) voice-cloning technology to spread a misleading message.

Such acts are punishable under existing laws, he added, noting that legal procedures are underway to take appropriate action against those responsible.
