Nation celebrating July Mass Uprising Day
The nation is celebrating July Mass Uprising Day across the country with various festivities on Tuesday. On this day, August 5, 2024, following a mass uprising led by students, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country, marking the end of the Awami League’s 15-and-a-half-year fascist regime. This day later became known as ‘36 July.’
Various programmes are being organised throughout the capital and across the country to commemorate the day.
In observance, wreaths were laid at the July Martyrs’ Memorials in 64 districts at 9:00 am. Prayers and religious gatherings are planned at places of worship nationwide.
Meanwhile, a day-long event will be held on Manik Mia Avenue in Dhaka. Preparations for the main stage, sound, and lighting systems for the ‘July Reawakening Program’ have been completed. Security has been tightened at the venue and surrounding areas.
Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus is scheduled to read out the July Declaration at the South Plaza of the National Parliament at 5:00 pm, with the event broadcast live on Bangladesh Television. A special drone show will follow at 7:30 pm, succeeded by a band performance at 8:00 pm.
