Ex-CJ Khairul sent to jail in verdict manipulation case
A Dhaka court on Thursday sent former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque to jail following the completion of his seven-day remand in a case filed over alleged manipulation of the Supreme Court verdict on the caretaker government system.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman passed the order after police produced the former chief justice before the court and requested that he be kept in jail until the investigation concludes.
Earlier, on July 30, Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sanaullah had placed him on a seven-day remand in connection with the case.
Supreme Court lawyer Muhammad Muzahidul Islam filed the case against Justice Khairul on August 27, 2024, with Shahbagh Police Station under sections 219 and 466 of the Penal Code.
A team of the Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Justice Khairul from Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area on July 24, 2025. He was sent to jail the same day after being shown arrested in another case filed over the killing of Abdul Qaium Ahad during the July-August mass uprising in the capital’s Jatrabari area.
